This study aims at examining whether the use of Audio Lingual Method through dialog
memorization technique improves students’ listening skill or not. This study focused on
the use of Audio Lingual Method through dialog memorization technique in teaching
listening skill for second grade students at MTsS Ulumul Qur’an Banda Aceh.
Quantitative approach with one group pre test- post test design was undertaken to
overcome the problems faced by students in learning listening skill. The instrument used
to collect the data in this study by means of the test in the form of written test. This
research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation result showed that
observed t-score value is higher than critical value of t-table (18.12 > 2.03). It means
that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The result of this study revealed there is a
significant increase related to the students’ ability in listening skill. Thus, Audio Lingual
Method through dialog memorization technique can be one of alternative technique used
by the teacher in teaching English particularly teaching listening in EFL class.
