Title :Teaching Speaking Skill by Using Group Work (An Experimental Study at the Second Grade Students of SMAN 1 Glumpang Tiga)

This study is about “Teaching Speaking Skill by Using Group Work (An Experimental Study at the Second Grade Students of SMAN 1 Glumpang Tiga)”. The purpose of this study is to identify whether group work technique can improve students’ speaking ability. The population in this study is all of the second year students at SMAN 1 Glumpang Tiga. The samples in this study was one class which consisted of 30 students that taken by using random sampling. There were two test: pre-test and post-test. The result of the test showed that there was significant different of the students’ ability in speaking ability between pre-test and post-test after teaching by using group work technique. To prove the hypothesis, the writer used t-score formula. Based on the data analysis, t-score (6.46) is higher than t-table (2.045). It means that the hypothesis which stated that the students’ speaking ability will be improved by applying group work technique. The use of group work technique in teaching speaking is an effective technique. There is a significant difference between the students’ score in pre-test and post-test. The student got the improvement after teaching by using group work technique. Therefore, it can be seen that teaching speaking by using group work technique give a better result.
