 <note>This study entitled an analysis of grammatical error in students’ writing report text made by the second year students of SMAN 1 Baitussalam. The study describes the errors those the student made in writing report text based on surface strategy taxonomy (omission, addition, misformation and misordering). One of the purposes of study is to describe the errors made by XI-IA1 students of SMAN 1 Baitussalam. The study used descriptive qualitative method.The population of this research was the second year students of SMAN 1 Baitussalam. The XI-IA1 was chosen as the sample based on purposive sampling technique. The number of sample was 16 students. The instrument was test where students were asked to write a report text with the title “a school”. The test was conducted on august 25 th 2014 taking place at SMAN 1 Baitussalam. The result show there are 121 items of errors in the students’ writing. Based on surface strategy taxonomy, the writer found that 47.9% errors of omission, 7.4% error of addition, 41.3% errors of misformation, and 3.3% errors of misordering. Based on that findings it could be concluded that some second year students at SMAN 1 Baitussalam made grammatical errors in writing report text. They made errors in omission, addition, misformation and misordering. In line with the suggestion of this research, the students need to practice more in writing so that they can be aware of making grammatical errors in their writing especially in report text</note>
