Berbagai macam karakter masyarakat dalam menyikapi anak berkebutuhan khusus seperti, masyarakat yang membatasi diri dan keluarga berinteraksi dengan anak berkebutuhan khusus dan mayarakat yang tidak memberikan hak untuk mendapat layanan pendidikan dan layanan sosial kepada anak berkebutuhan khusus merupakan fenomena yang didapati. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat persepsi masyarakat terhadap anak berkebutuhan khusus di Banda Aceh. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode kuantitatif dan metode pengumpulan datanya menggunakan studi deskriptif kuantitatif. Dengan sampel penelitian sebanyak 310 masyarakat kecamatan Ulee Kareng yang berusia 20-29 tahun, teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Simple Random Sampling, alat ukur yang digunakan yaitu skala persepsi masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukan (1) separuhnya masyarakat memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap anak berkebutuhan khusus dengan persentase 50%, (2) hampir separuhnya masyarakat sudah dapat memahami aspek kognisi dan sebagian besar masyarakat sudah dapat memahami aspek afeksi dan konasi, (3) hampir separuhnya masyarakat berjenis kelamin laki-laki dan sebagian besar masyarakat yang berjenis kelamin perempuan menunjukkan persepsi positif terhadap anak berkebutuhan khusus, (4) separuhnya masyarakat berusia 20-24 tahun dan sebagian besar masyarakat usia 25-29 tahun memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap anak berkebuthan khusus, (5) diantara Sembilan desa ada tiga desa yang seluruhnya masyarakat memiliki persepsi positif terhadap anak berkebutuhan khusus yaitu desa Pango Deah, Lamglumpang, dan Ie Masen Kayee Adang. Secara umum masyarakat kota Banda Aceh menunjukkan memiliki persepsi positif terhadap anak berkebutuhan khusus.

Various characters of society in responding to children with special needs such as, society that limits themselves and their families from interacting with children with special needs and society that does not give the right to receive education and social services to children with special needs is a phenomenon that is found. This study was conducted to describe the level of public perception of children with special needs in Banda Aceh. The study was conducted using quantitative methods and the data collection method used quantitative descriptive studies. With a research sample of 310 people in Ulee Kareng sub-district aged 20-29 years, the sampling technique in this study used Simple Random Sampling, the measuring instrument used was the scale of public perception. The results of the study showed that (1) half of the community has a positive perception of children with special needs with a percentage of 50%, (2) almost half of the community can understand the cognitive aspect and most of the community can understand the affective and conation aspects, (3) almost half of the male community and most of the female community show a positive perception of children with special needs, (4) half of the community aged 20-24 years and most of the community aged 25-29 years have a positive perception of children with special needs, (5) among the nine villages there are three villages where all the community has a positive perception of children with special needs, namely Pango Deah, Lamglumpang, and Ie Masen Kayee Adang villages. In general, the community of Banda Aceh city shows a positive perception of children with special needs.
