<note>The objective of this study was to unearth the strong and disputable features of New Cutting Edge as an English textbook for Year 2 of Senior High School student as well as to investigate its compatibility to School Based Curriculum (SBC). The main purpose of the study was to know if the textbook content is compatible with the School Based Curriculum. For this purpose, the content analysis method is used to scrutinize the content, layout and organization, activities and tasks, and skill of the textbook. In addition, the data was collected through Garinger textbook evaluation checklist and interview guide to identify the teachers’ perception toward the implementation of New Cutting Edge (NCE) textbook in their classrooms. The result of the data analysis revealed that the principles and approaches that underlying the design of NCE and SBC are completely different. New Cutting Edge employed Task based approach while SBC applied Genre approach in the language learning process. It means several contents that required in SBC are not provided in NCE English textbook. The analysis of interview result also uncover that the emphasis of New Cutting Edge and School Based Curriculum are dissimilar. It can be concluded that New Cutting Edge (NCE) textbook is not compatible with School Based Curriculum (SBC) and thus teachers need to adjust the New Cutting Edge textbook content in order to meet the School Based Curriculum requirements.</note>
