Pada tahun 2013 bencana gempa bumi yang menimpa Desa Serempah membawa perubahan terhadap kehidupan masyarakat, bukan hanya korban jiwa saja tetapi juga kerusakan infrastruktur, kerugian ekonomi, rumah penduduk maupun fasilitas lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kehidupan masyarakat Serempah sebelum dan pasca relokasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data berasal dari sumber primer dan sumber sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, dokumentasi, tinjauan pustaka dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa (1) sebelum relokasi pemerintah mengadakan musyawarah dengan masyarakat untuk pengadaan tempat relokasi yang kemudian memilih Kuta Alam sebagai lokasi baru. (2) Pada masa awal relokasi kehidupan ekonomi masyarakat Serempah mengalami penurunan, hal tersebut didasarkan pada lahan pertanian masyarakat keadaan struktur tanah yang belum stabil, sehingga hasil pertanian menurun. Selain itu dampak sosial budaya juga dirasakan oleh masyarakat Serempah yaitu terjadinya kecemburuan sosial terhadap desa satu dengan desa lainnya. (3) 10 tahun pasca bencana gempa bumi yang dialami oleh masyarakat Serempah terdapat 2 aspek yaitu ekonomi dan sosial budaya. Dalam aspek ekonomi pendapatan perekonomian masyarakat semakin meningkat, hal ini ditandai dengan adanya perbandingan pendapatan perekonomian masyarakat sebelum dan pasca relokasi. Adapun dalam aspek sosial budaya yaitu masyarakat Serempah di relokasi di permukiman baru di daerah Kuta Alam terdapat dampak positif dan negative seperti pasca relokasi masyarakat Serempah cepat menerima sesuatu hal yang baru seperti penggunaan handphone yang semakin modern, dampak negative seperti renggangnya hubungan kekeluargaan antar sesama.

In 2013 the earthquake disaster that hit Serempah Village brought changes to people's lives, not only casualties but also infrastructure damage, economic losses, residents' homes and other facilities. This research aims to find out the life of the Serempah community before and after relocation. This research uses historical methods with a qualitative approach. Data sources come from primary sources and secondary sources. Data collection techniques used observation, documentation, literature review and interviews. Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that (1) before the relocation the government held deliberations with the community to procure a relocation site which then chose Kuta Alam as the new location. (2) In the early days of relocation, the economic life of the Serempah community experienced a decline, this was based on the community's agricultural land, the condition of the soil structure was not yet stable, so that agricultural yields decreased. In addition, the socio-cultural impact was also felt by the Serempah community, namely the occurrence of social jealousy between one village and another. (3) 10 years after the earthquake disaster experienced by the Serempah community there are 2 aspects, namely economic and socio-cultural. In the economic aspect, the community's economic income is increasing, this is indicated by the comparison of the community's economic income before and after relocation. As for the socio-cultural aspects, namely the Serempah community being relocated in new settlements in the Kuta Alam area, there are positive and negative impacts such as post-relocation Serempah people quickly accept new things such as the use of cellphones that are increasingly modern, negative impacts such as the breakdown of family relationships between people.
