Title : The Application of Jigsaw Model in Teaching Reading
Comprehension
This study is aimed at elaborating and discussing the theory and research finding related
to the application of jigsaw model in teaching reading comprehension. This study is
library research where the writer obtained the information from many resources such as
books, articles, journals, theses, newspapers, magazines, previous studies, and also
through website on the internet. The data collected in forms of statements, opinions, and
theories, then read, analyzed, and elaborated. The result of the study proved that Jigsaw
is particularly useful for students who might struggle with content texts because of
limited knowledge of English (Paregoy and Boyle 2005:341-342). Furthermore, some
previous studies reported that Jigsaw is a valuable tool to help students achieve
academic success by increasing their reading levels and knowledge of comprehension
skills while encouraging positive interactions among peers, and there is also an increase
in enthusiasm and motivation towards reading (Eppler & Huber 1990; Marzano et al.
2001; Melia 2005; Farouk 2010). This study shows that teaching reading
comprehension using jigsaw model is a successful way to improve and promote
students’ achievement, participations as well as a useful model for student to
accomplish learning task in the classroom. It is also a successful way in reducing
student’s reluctance and anxiety in learning reading.</note>
