Sebagai salah satu provinsi di Indonesia, Aceh memiliki sumber daya geologi yang berlimpah yaitu potensi bahan tambang dan mineral seperti minyak bumi, gas alam, emas, batu bara, maupun bebatuan seperti batuan sedimen alluvium, batuan vulkanik, batuan pluton tanah, dsb. Provinsi Aceh juga memiliki perusahaan-perusahaan pertambangan sumber daya geologi, baik sumber daya geologi logam maupun non logam. Keberadaan sumber daya geologi tersebut perlu diketahui dan dikenal oleh masyarakat Indonesia khususnya di Aceh. Hal ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengingatkan kembali kepada masyarakat bahwa Provinsi Aceh kaya akan sumber daya geologi serta mengingatkan pentingnya melestarikan dan menjaga hasil dari sumber daya tersebut. Maka dari itu, dibutuhkan suatu wadah seperti museum untuk mengumpulkan, memelihara, meneliti, serta memamerkan bukti sejarah dan perkembangan geologi di Aceh. Perancangan Museum Geologi di Banda Aceh ini menggunakan konsep pendekatan arsitektur metafora yang diharapkan bangunan tersebut dapat menjadi sebuah identitas bagi Kota Banda Aceh.

As one of the provinces in Indonesia, Aceh has abundant geological resources, namely the potential for mining and mineral materials such as petroleum, natural gas, gold, coal, and rocks such as alluvial sedimentary rock, volcanic rock, ground pluton rock, etc. Aceh Province also has geological resource mining companies, both metallic and non-metallic geological resources. The existence of these geological resources needs to be known and acknowledged by the Indonesian people, especially in Aceh. This was done with the aim of reminding the public that Aceh Province is rich in geological resources and reminding them of the importance of preserving and protecting the results of these resources. Therefore, a forum such as a museum is needed to collect, preserve, research and exhibit evidence of history and geological development in Aceh. The design of the Geological Museum in Banda Aceh uses the concept of a metaphorical architectural approach with the hope that the building can become an identity for the City of Banda Aceh.
