Judul  :  Pengaruh Perasan Bawang Putih (Allium sativum  L.) &#13;
sebagai Bahan Irigasi Saluran Akar dalam Menghambat&#13;
Pertumbuhan Enterococcus faecalis secara In Vitro&#13;
Enterococcus faecalis  (E. faecalis) adalah salah satu bakteri Gram positif &#13;
fakultatif anaerob yang termasuk flora normal dalam rongga mulut, namun bakteri &#13;
ini dapat menjadi  patogen dan memiliki peran utama sebagai penyebab lesi &#13;
periradikuler persisten setelah perawatan saluran akar.  Perawatan saluran akar &#13;
merupakan upaya  yang dilakukan untuk menanggulangi infeksi pada saluran akar &#13;
dan periradikuler. Salah satu tahapannya adalah dengan tindakan irigasi.   Bawang &#13;
putih (Allium sativum  L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman  umbi lapis  yang &#13;
mengandung senyawa-senyawa antimikroba seperti  allicin,  minyak atsiri, &#13;
alkaloid,  flavonoid, tannin, dan saponin. Penelitian dengan  desain eksperimental &#13;
laboratories ini bertujuan  untuk mengetahui  pengaruh  perasan bawang putih &#13;
terhadap pertumbuhan  E. faecalis.  Enterococcus faecalis  yang telah dikultur pada &#13;
media  CHROMagar VRE  dan diinkubasi selama 24 jam pada  suhu 37?C dalam &#13;
suasana anaerob,  dilakukan uji konfirmasi dengan pewarnaan Gram dan &#13;
penentuan kekeruhan bakteri dengan spektrofotometer. Uji pengaruh perasan &#13;
bawang putih terhadap pertumbuhan  E. faecalis  dilakukan dengan metode difusi &#13;
agar pada media MHA. Data hasil pengukuran dianalisis dengan  one way &#13;
ANOVA dengan ?=0,05 dan dilanjutkan dengan uji  Least Significance Difference &#13;
(LSD). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa perasan bawang &#13;
putih memiliki pengaruh terhadap  E. faecalis  pada konsentrasi 25  dan 50%&#13;
dengan  kemampuan daya hambat lemah, sedangkan  pada konsentrasi  75, dan &#13;
100% dengan kemampuan daya hambat yang sedang.&#13;

Irrigation  Material  to Inhibit the  Growth of  Enterococcus&#13;
faecalis In Vitro&#13;
Enterococcus faecalis  (E. faecalis) is one of the Gram positive anaerobic &#13;
facultative bacteria which also acts as normal flora in  the oral cavity, however this &#13;
bacteria can be pathogenic and takes the main role as causative agent of persistent &#13;
periradicular lesion which occurred after root canal treatment.  Root canal &#13;
treatment is an effort to cured infection in the root canal and per iradicular, which &#13;
part of its stages is irrigation. Garlic  (Allium  sativum  L.)  is one of the alliaceous &#13;
plants which contains antimicrobial substrates such as allicin, essential oil, &#13;
alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, and saponin. This research was  using an experimental &#13;
laboratory design and aimed to determine the effect of garlic juice to inhibit the &#13;
growth of  E. faecalis.  Pre-cultured  E. faecalis  on  CHROMagar VRE  media and &#13;
incubated at 37?C  temperature for 24 hour in an aerobic cond ucted, then &#13;
confirmation test was  to be done by Gram staining while bacterial turbidity was&#13;
determined by spectrophotometer.  The effectiveness test  of garlic juice to inhibit &#13;
the growth of  E. faecalis  was done using agar diffusin method on MHA media. &#13;
The data collected from this research were analyzed by one -way ANOVA with &#13;
?=0.05  and continued by Least Significance Difference test  (LSD).  Based on the &#13;
results of this research, the conclusion was made that garlic juice with &#13;
concentration 25% have weak inhibition effect to inhibit the growth of  E. faecalis, &#13;
while concentration 50%, 75%, and 100% have intermediate effect.&#13;
