<note>The purpose of this study is to explore some theories, statements or research
findings which would be useful for improving students’ ability in teaching listening
which then leads to the improvement of the students’ skill of listening. There are
some problems found in teaching and learning process of English at elementary
school. One of them is that the students could not respond and understand the simple
instruction given by the teacher. To solve the students’ problem, the teacher can use
many techniques. One of which is by using Total Physical Response (TPR). The
method used in this study is library research to investigate the application of TPR in
teaching listening skill. The result of this study showed that TPR can be used in
teaching English especially in teaching listening in order to give solution for the
students who encounter problem in listening, especially in comprehending teacher’s
instruction. Then, the application of TPR can be used in teaching listening skill to the
students, especially elementary school students in the fifth grade. Therefore, the
application of TPR can be as a good model to improve and develop students’ ability
in listening. The writer would like to suggest that the implementation of TPR in
teaching listening to elementary students at the fifth year student in the first semester</note>
