Salah satu kemampuan yang sangat penting untuk dikuasi dalam bidang
matematika adalah kemampuan berpikir kritis. Namun faktanya, kemampuan
berpikir kritis siswa masih rendah. Hal ini disebabkan karena pembelajaran yang
dilakukan tidak dapat melibatkan siswa secara aktif dan hanya berfokus pada
menghafal materi tanpa pemahaman konsep. Penerapan model pembelajaran yang
aktif penting diterapkan. Salah satunya dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran
IMPROVE atau Introducing the new concepts, Metacognitive questions, Practicing,
Reviewing and Reducing difficulties, Obtaining mastery, Verification,
Enrichment. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan model
IMPROVE terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa di SMPN 1
Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis
penelitian pre eksperimental design bentuk one shot case study. Populasi yang
digunakan adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Banda Aceh dengan sampel
penelitian siswa kelas VII 4 yang berjumlah 30 orang. Instrumen penelitian
berupa soal tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis.
Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh bahwa nilai t hitung lebih dari
t tabel. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah
penerapan model IMPROVE terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa
pada materi perbandingan di SMPN 1 Banda Aceh dapat mencapai ketuntasan.
Penerapan model IMPROVE dapat dijadikan pilihan model pembelajaran dalam
meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa.

One of the most important skills to master in the field of mathematics is critical thinking. However, in reality, students' critical thinking abilities are still low. This is because the learning carried out cannot actively involve students and only focuses on memorizing material without understanding concepts. It is important to apply an active learning model. One of them is by implementing the IMPROVE learning model Introducing new concepts, metacognitive questions, Practicing, Reviewing and Reducing difficulties, Gaining mastery, Verification, Enrichment. The purpose of this research is to determine the application of the IMPROVE model to students' mathematical critical thinking abilities at SMPN 1 Banda Aceh. This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research design in the form of a one shot case study. The population used was all class VII students at SMPN 1 Banda Aceh with a research sample of class VII 4 students totaling 30 people. The research instrument is in the form of mathematical critical thinking ability test questions. conclusion of this research is that the application of the IMPROVE model to students' mathematical critical thinking skills in comparative material at SMPN 1 Banda Aceh can achieve completeness. The application of the IMPROVE model can be used as a learning model of choice in improving students' critical mathematical thinking skills.
