Ferning terjadi karena pembentukan kristal garam-garam yang dipicu oleh hormon estrogen. Tipologi ferning dipengaruhi oleh tingkat homon estrstrogen. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengidentifikasi korelasi antara konsentrasi hormon estrogen dan variasi pola pakis (ferning) lendir serviks pada sapi aceh. Pada penelitian menggunakan 5 ekor sapi aceh betina, umur 3-7 tahun dan memiliki bobot 150 kg hingga 250 kg, telah melahirkan setidaknya sekali dan memiliki paling kurang dua siklus reguler. Setiap sapi aceh disinkronisasi menggunakan PGF2 (dinoprost tromethamine inj., Lutalyse, Zoetis US) menggunakan metode single shoot, dengan syarat memeriksa adanya CL (corpus luteum) pada sapi dan diinjeksi secara intra muscular. Koleksi mukus serviks menggunakan metode aspirasi saat puncak estrus. Penilaian skor ferning dilakukan dengan melihat tampilan ferning menggunakan mikroskop. Konsentrasi estrogen diukur dengan metode ezyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). Hasil data yang didapatkan pada penelitian ini diuji dengan korelasi pearson, dan menunjukkan rata-rata konsentrasi estrogen sapi aceh saat estrus sebesar 114,92±17,75 pg/ml, dan rata-rata tipologi ferning mukus serviks sapi aceh sebesar 4,4±0,54. Nilai korelasi antara konsentrasi estrogen dengan tipologi ferning mukus serviks sapi aceh yaitu sebesar 0,921 dan memiliki nilai signifikan 0,026. Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini terdapat hubungan sangat kuat antara konsentrasi estrogen dengan tipologi ferning mukus serviks sapi aceh dan berkorelasi nyata.

Ferning occurs due to the formation of salt crystals which are triggered by the hormone estrogen. Ferning typology is influenced by estrogen homon levels. The aim of this study was to identify the correlation between estrogen concentrations and variations in ferning patterns of cervical mucus in Aceh cows. The study used 5 female aceh cows, aged 3-7 years and weighing 150 kg to 250 kg, having calved at least once and having at least two regular cycles. Each Aceh cow was synchronized using PGF2 (dinoprost tromethamine inj., Lutalyse, Zoetis US) using the single shoot method, provided that the CL (corpus luteum) was checked in the cow and injected intra muscularly. Collection of cervical mucus using the aspiration method during peak estrus. Assessment of ferning score was done by looking at the appearance of ferning using a microscope. Estrogen concentration was measured by ezyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) method. The results of the data obtained in this study were tested with Pearson correlation, and showed the average estrogen concentration of aceh cows during estrus was 114.92 ± 17.75 pg/ml, and the average typology of ferning cervical mucus of aceh cows was 4.4 ± 0.54. The correlation value between estrogen concentration and cervical mucus ferning typology of Aceh cows is 0.921 and has a significant value of 0.026. The conclusion of this study is that there is a very strong relationship between estrogen concentration and the typology of cervical mucus ferning of Aceh cows and significantly correlated.
