Bahan Bacaan Online (ORM) adalah bahan bacaan yang bersumber dari internet yang dapat dieksplorasi atau dibaca secara online. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan ORM efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca teks recount siswa pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 17 Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan menggunakan desain pra-eksperimental dengan desain satu kelompok pretest – posttest. Peneliti melakukan 5 kali pertemuan untuk pre-test, treatment, dan post-test. Peneliti menggunakan teknik random sampling dan subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII-9 dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 30 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test serta materi bersumber dari website British Council. Peneliti menggunakan IBM SPSS Statistics 25 sebagai alat untuk menganalisis data. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ORM efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa yang dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata yang lebih tinggi pada post-test (65,33) dibandingkan dengan pre-test (51,00). Peningkatan tersebut semakin dibuktikan dengan adanya perbedaan signifikansi dimana nilai T-hitung lebih besar dibandingkan T-tabel (3,838>2,045). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, dan hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak.

Online Reading Materials (ORM) is the reading materials sourced from the internet which can be explored or read online. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the use of ORM is effective to enhance students’ reading comprehension of recount text at the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 17 Banda Aceh. This study used quantitative method and applied pre-experimental design with one group pretest - posttest design. The researcher conducted 5 meetings for pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The researcher used random sampling technique and the subject of this study was VIII-9 class with the total sample was 30 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test and the materials sourced from the British Council website. The researcher used IBM SPSS Statistics 25 as a tool to analyze the data. The result showed that ORM was effective in improving students’ reading comprehension that was proved by the higher mean score in post-test (65.33) compared to the pre-test (51.00). The improvement was further substantiated by the significance difference where the T-test value was greater than the T-table (3.838>2.045). It indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Keywords: Online Reading Materials, Reading Comprehension, Recount Text
