Aceh Jaya merupakan salah satu wilayah yang memiliki laut yang sangat luas dan pernah terkena dampak tsunami yang menyebabkan terjadinya sedimentasi. Keberadaan sedimen dapat mempengaruhi karakteristik karena perbedaan lingkungan pengendapannya, seperti pada estuari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik sedimen berdasarkan identifikasi berat fraksi sedimen di Aceh Jaya Bagian Selatan. Metode yang digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel yaitu purposive sampling berdasarkan tujuan tertentu, seperti daerah estuari, daerah jetty, daerah wisata dan daerah tidak ada aktivitas manusia. Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis yaitu metode pengayakan dengan ayak kering menggunakan ayakan bertingkat atau sieve shaker dengan diameter yang berbeda-beda (2 mm, 1 mm, 0,5 mm, 0,25 mm, 0,125 mm, 0,063 mm dan 0,038 mm). Setelah di ayak lalu dihitung persentase berat dan nilai ukuran butir rata-rata berdasarkan skala klasifikasi Wenworth (1992). Pada penelitian ini yaitu didapatkan hanya ada 1 jenis yaitu pasir pada Kabupaten Aceh Jaya Bagian Selatan, dan ada 4 kategori sedimen pada lokasi ini yaitu pasir yang sangat kasar, pasir sedang, pasir halus dan pasir yang sangat halus. Pada Kabupaten Aceh Jaya Bagian Selatan didominasi oleh kategori sedimen pasir sedang, yang ada di 4 lokasi penelitian yaitu stasiun 1, 2, 5 dan 6. Hasil analisis menunjukkan variasi karakteristik sedimen antar lokasi, menjelaskan adanya perbedaan dinamika pantai dan pengaruh faktor lingkungan sekitarnya.

Aceh Jaya is one of the areas that has a very large sea and has been affected by the tsunami which has caused sedimentation. The presence of sediments can affect the characteristics due to differences in the deposition environment, such as in estuaries. This study aims to determine the characteristics of sediments based on the identification of sediment fraction weight in Southern Aceh Jaya. The method used for sampling is purposive sampling based on certain objectives, such as estuary areas, jetty areas, tourist areas and areas with no human activity. The method used to analyze is the dry sieving method using a multilevel sieve or sieve shaker with different diameters (2 mm, 1 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.125 mm, 0.063 mm and 0.038 mm). After sieving, the weight percentage and average grain size value were calculated based on the Wenworth classification scale (1992). In this study, it was found that there was only 1 type of sand in the Southern Aceh Jaya Regency, and there were 4 sediment categories at this location, namely very coarse sand, medium sand, fine sand and very fine sand. In the Southern Aceh Jaya District, it is dominated by the medium sand sediment category, which is present in 4 research locations, namely stations 1, 2, 5 and 6. The results of the analysis show variations in sediment characteristics between locations, explaining the differences in coastal dynamics and the influence of surrounding environmental factors.
