Hipoglikemia masih menjadi tantangan dan masalah bagi pasien diabetes mellitus karena merupakan kondisi gawat darurat yang dapat mengancam jiwa. Jumlah pasien hipoglikemia di RSUDZA Banda Aceh pada tahun 2021 mencapai 573 pasien. Kegagalan dalam mengenali gejala awal hipoglikemia merupakan faktor risiko memburuknya kondisi pasien. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan deteksi episode hipoglikemia pada pasien diabetes mellitus di poliklinik endokrin RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah pasien diabetes mellitus yang menjalani pengobatan di Poliklinik Endokrin RSUDZA Banda Aceh dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 86 responden dan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP). Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa 55,8% pasien diabetes mellitus tidak mampu mendeteksi episode hipoglikemia dan 44,2% pasien yang mampu mendeteksi episode hipoglikemia. Hal tersebut disebabkan karena masih banyak informasi tentang hipoglikemia yang tidak diketahui oleh pasien. Diharapkan kepada tenaga kesehatan dapat meningkatkan pendidikan kesehatan tentang deteksi dini hipoglikemia kepada pasien dengan melibatkan keluarga pasien.

Hypoglycemia remains a challenge and problem for patients with diabetes mellitus because it is an emergency condition that can be life-threatening. The incidence of hypoglycemia in RSUDZA Banda Aceh 2021 reached 573 patients. The failure to recognize the early symptoms of hypoglycemia is a risk factor for worsening the patient's condition. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability to detect of hypoglycemia episodes in patients with diabetes mellitus in the endocrine polyclinic of RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh. This study uses quantitative type with descriptive design. The population in this study were diabetes mellitus patients undergoing treatment at the Endocrine Polyclinic of RSUDZA Banda Aceh using purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study were 86 respondents and the data collection technique used a Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) questionnaire. The results showed that 55.8% of patients with diabetes mellitus were unable to detect episodes of hypoglycemia and 44.2% of patients were able to detect episodes of hypoglycemia. The incident was caused because there is still a lot of information about hypoglycemia that is not known by patients. Recommendation for health workers can improve health education about early detection to patients by involving the patient's family.
