ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan bentuk dan fungsi eufemisme yang terdapat dalam teks pidato Bupati Aceh Jaya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah teks pidato Bupati Aceh Jaya yang diambil pada bagian Humas kantor Bupati Aceh Jaya, dari bulan Januari sampai dengan Desember 2022. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat yang mengandung eufemisme dalam teks pidato Bupati Aceh Jaya. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan sebanyak 51 eufemisme yang terdiri dari 5 bentuk. Bentuk tersebut yaitu, eufemisme berupa parafrase atau perifrasis, eufemisme berupa singkatan, eufemisme berupa kata serapan, eufemisme berupa istilah asing, dan eufemisme berupa metafora. Fungsi yang eufemisme ditemukan sebanyak 4 fungsi yakni: 1) sebagai alat untuk menghaluskan ucapan; 2) sebagai alat untuk merahasiakan sesuatu; 3) sebagai alat diplomasi; dan 4) sebagai alat pendidikan. Dalam teks pidato Bupati Aceh Jaya banyak ditemukan eufemisme yang bertujuan untuk menghaluskan kata agar masyarakat yang mendengar pidato tersebut tidak merasa tersinggung atau sakit hati.

ABSTRACT This study describes the form and function of euphemisms contained in the speech text of the Regent of Aceh Jaya. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The source of the data in this study was the speech text of the Aceh Jaya Regent taken at the Public Relations section of the Aceh Jaya Regent's office, from January to December 2022. The data in this study were in the form of words, phrases and sentences that contained euphemisms in the speech text of the Aceh Jaya Regent. The data collection technique in this study is a documentation technique. Based on the research results, there were 51 euphemisms consisting of 5 forms. These forms are euphemisms in the form of paraphrases or periphrases, euphemisms in the form of abbreviations, euphemisms in the form of borrowed words, euphemisms in the form of foreign terms, and euphemisms in the form of metaphors. There are 4 functions of euphemism, namely: 1) as a tool to refine speech; 2) as a tool to keep something secret; 3) as a tool of diplomacy; and 4) as an educational tool. In the text of the Aceh Jaya Regent's speech there are many euphemisms that aim to soften words so that people who hear the speech do not feel offended or hurt.
