Penelitian ini berjudul “Peran Komunikasi Ayah Dalam Pembentukan Karakter Disiplin Anak: Studi Pada Santri di Dayah Modern Darul Ulum Banda Aceh”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana peran komunikasi ayah dalam pembentukan karakter disiplin anak pada santri Dayah Modern Darul Ulum Banda Aceh. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori interaksionisme simbolik yang dikembangkan oleh George Herbert Mead dan Herbert Blumer yang mengatakan bahwa dalam kehidupan sosial secara harfiah terdapat adanya tindakan sosial yang terjadi antar satu individu dengan yang lainnya, interaksi yang terjadi di mediasi oleh penggunaan simbol-simbol yang terinterpretasi akan suatu makna, dan melibatkan pengambilan peran. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif, dimana menggambarkan suatu masalah yang terjadi dengan proses pengumpulan data di lapangan dengan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara semi terstruktur. Subjek informan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pengambilan purposive sampling dengan informan berjumlah 6 orang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peran komunikasi yang dominan dijumpai dari komunikasi seorang ayah yaitu pertama adalah peran informatif, kedua peran konfirmatif, kemudian peran persuasif dan peran afektif yang memiliki jumlah tingkatan yang sama. Peneliti menemukan bahwa informan tidak hanya menyebutkan pernyataan yang termasuk dalam satu peran komunikasi saja, tetapi terdapat informan yang menyatakan respon dan pernyataan yang termasuk dalam lebih dari satu peran komunikasi, hal tersebut menyatakan bahwa terdapat hubungan pada setiap peran komunikasi dan terdapat peran komunikasi yang bervariatif pada seorang ayah. Kualitas komunikasi yang tepat dari seorang ayah akan membentuk suatu kebiasaan melalui peran yang dilakukan dan interpretasi nya sehingga dapat terbentuk karakter disiplin pada diri seorang anak dan hal ini sejalan dengan konsep teori interaksionisme simbolik.

This research is entitled "Father's Communication Role in Forming Children's Discipline Character: A Study of Santri at Darul Ulum Modern Dayah Banda Aceh". This study aims to find out how the role of father's communication in the formation of children's discipline character in the Dayah Modern students of Darul Ulum Banda Aceh. The theory used in this study is the theory of symbolic interactionism developed by George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer which says that in social life literally there are social actions that occur between one individual and another, the interactions that occur are mediated by the use of symbols. which is interpreted by a meaning, and involves taking a role. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, which describe a problem that occurs with the data collection process in the field using semi-structured interview data collection techniques. Informant subjects in this study used a purposive sampling technique with 6 informants. Based on the results of the research, the dominant communication role was found in the communication of a father, namely the first is the informative role, the second is the confirmative role, then the persuasive role and the affective role which have the same number of levels. The researcher found that the informants did not only mention statements that were included in one communication role, but there were informants who stated responses and statements that were included in more than one communication role, this stated that there was a relationship in each communication role and there were varied communication roles in a father. The right quality of communication from a father will form a habit through the role played and its interpretation so that the character of discipline can be formed in a child and this is in line with the concept of symbolic interactionism theory.
