Usaha untuk mengoptimalkan ketersediaan cacing sutera dapat dilakukan melalui kultur cacing sutera. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 40 hari di Laboratorium Pembenihan dan Pembiakan Ikan, Fakultas Kelautan dan Perikanan, bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan susu bubuk afkir dan fermentasi ampas wortel dalam media kultur terhadap pertumbuhan biomassa dan jumlah populasi cacing sutera. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi penambahan campuran susu bubuk afkir dan fermentasi ampas wortel berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan biomassa mutlak, pertumbuhan populasi dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik cacing sutera. Pertumbuhan biomassa mutlak tertinggi 0,15 g, pertumbuhan populasi tertinggi 192.580 individu dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik tertinggi 2,260%/hari diperoleh perlakuan terbaik yaitu pada perlakuan C dengan dosis susu bubuk afkir 4%, fermentasi ampas wortel 4%. Hasil analisis uji proksimat cacing sutera menunjukkan bahwa kandungan protein 42,64% dan karbohidrat 23,50% tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan B dengan dosis susu bubuk afkir 2%, fermentasi ampas wortel 6% dan kandungan lemak 14,97% tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan C dengan dosis susu bubuk afkir 4%, fermentasi ampas wortel 4%. Hasil pengukuran terhadap kualitas air diperoleh bahwa nilai suhu, pH, dan Oksigen terlarut (DO) dalam kisaran yang layak untuk budidaya cacing sutera.

Efforts to optimize the availability of silk worms can be done through silk worm culture. This research was conducted for 40 days at the Fish Hatchery and Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, aiming to determine the effect of adding rejected milk powder and fermenting carrot pulp in culture media on biomass growth and silkworm population numbers. The results showed that variations in the addition of a mixture of rejected milk powder and fermented carrot pulp had a significant effect on the growth of biomass, population growth, and the specific growth rate of silk worms. The highest absolute biomass growth was 0,15 g, the highest population growth was 192.580 individuals and the highest specific growth rate was 2,260%/day, the best treatment was obtained in treatment C with a dose of 4% reject milk powder, 4% fermented carrot dregs. The results of the silkworm proximate test analysis showed that the highest protein content of 42,64% and 23,50% carbohydrate was obtained in treatment B with a dose of 2% reject milk powder, fermented carrot pulp 6% and the highest fat content was 14,97% obtained in treatment C with a dose of 4% reject milk powder, 4% fermented carrot pulp. The results of measurements of water quality showed that the values of temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO) were within the proper range for silkworm cultivation.
