There needs to be more supporting data for monitoring mangrove management in West Langsa District. Most of the data about mangroves are still attributed, disproportionate, and still minimal in publications. Therefore, it is needed to obtain the distribution area and density of mangroves in the west Langsa District using remote sensing technology and Geographic Information systems (GIS) can be used to monitor changes in area land cover and mangrove cover density, in addition, to providing benefits including lower cost, wider coverage areas, and easier compared to conducting direct surveys in the field for data collection. Landsat imagery maps are downloaded via the USGS website via the USGS website with Landsat 7 ETM path 129/57 image specifications acquired in 2000 and 2010, and 2015 -2020 for Landsat 8 OLI well as administrative maps of Langsa city. This study aims to analyze changes in land cover and mangrove crown density in the West Langsa district from the period 2000-2020. Based on the results, there has been a transition in the mangrove area. In 2000, the site of mangrove land was 1.039,17 һа, then in 2005, there was an increase in area to 1.325,59 һа (24,59%). Meanwhile, in 2010 the mangrove area decreased by 1.145,22 һа (21,24%). the dynamics of changes in mangrove land area still occurring were in in 2015, the site of mangroves increased to 1.357,10 һа (25,17%), and in 2020 there was an increase in area to 2027.05 ha (37,60%) or an increase of 669.96 ha from previously. Whereas in 2020, the highest crown density was 1.509,40 һа (74,46%) with dense criteria, the moderate was 517,49 һа (25,53 %), while the lowest sparse category canopy density value was 0,17 һа (0.01%) in 2020.
