Abstract Name : Nanda Marlina AS Student No : 0906102020074 Study Program : English Education Department Title : The Use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique to Improve Students’ Writing Skill (An Experimantal Study at the Second Year Students of SMPN 2 Banda Aceh) Keywords : Writing Skill, Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique. The purpose of this study is to examine how CIRC technique improves students’ writing skill in content and organization which is focused on writing recount text. The method used in this research is tests by using true experimental design typed of pretest-posttest design. Besides, quantitative approach is apllied. Random sampling and random assignment are used to determine the control and the experimental group. In addition, there are pre-test, treatment or teaching and post-test in both of the groups. It was conducted at the second grade students of SMPN 2 Banda Aceh. Students’ mean scores of pre-test in the Control Group are 40.76 and 60.76 for post-test, meanwhile, students’ mean scores of pre-test in the Experimental Group are 40 and 72.69 for the post-test. Thus, the t-test in the EG is 9.39 and the t-table is 2.056 which is used 0.05 as the significant level of this research. Because the t-test value is higher than the t-table (9.39>2.056), Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique can improve students’ skill in writing recount text. Indeed, it is recommended for teachers to apply this technique in teaching English, especially in teaching writing.
