Praktek kelas adalah peran sentral dalam membantu peserta didik mengembangkan kompetensi komunikatif mereka. Dalam mengatasi kekurangan keterampilan berbicara siswa, teknik melempar bola salju telah menjadi subjek penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menyelidiki implementasinya, deskripsi, dan upaya pembelajaran yang diperlukan selama praktiknya. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subyek penelitian adalah guru Bahasa Inggris di SMA Labschool Banda Aceh. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah dokumentasi, wawancara, dan observasi. Untuk mengumpulkan data peneliti mewawancarai guru dengan panduan wawancara dan alat perekam audio, mengamati proses belajar mengajar dengan lembar observasi dan alat perekam video terakhir, mengumpulkan RPP dan nilai siswa dari guru. Untuk menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan interpretasi deskriptif setelah data coding, shorting, dan thematizing. Hasilnya mengungkapkan enam fase implementasi, empat karakteristik deskripsi kegiatan, dan, delapan konsep dasar belajar mengajar selama praktik di kelas. Penelitian ini diakhiri dengan meringkas bagaimana peneliti menjawab pertanyaan penelitian dan memenuhi tujuan penelitian dalam kesimpulan. Hasil menyiratkan bahwa guru menerapkan teknik melempar bola salju berdasarkan teori dan metode belajar mengajar, kegiatan berpusat pada peserta didik dan, siswa berpartisipasi aktif.
Classroom practices play a central role in helping learners develop their communicative competencies. In addressing students’ speaking skills deficiency, the snowball-throwing technique has been subject of researches. In this study the researcher investigated its implementation, description, and learning efforts required during its practice. The researcher applied a qualitative descriptive method. The subject of research is an English teacher at SMA Labschool Banda Aceh. The instruments used are documentation, interview, and observation. To collect the data the researcher interviewed the teacher with an interview guide and an audio-device recording, observed the teaching-learning process with an observation sheet and a video-device recording finally, collected the lesson plan and students’ grades from the teacher. To analyze the data, the researcher applied descriptive interpretation after data coding, shorting, and thematizing. The results revealed six phases of the implementation, four characteristics of the activities description, and, eight fundamental concepts of teaching and learning during the classroom practice. This study was end-up by summarizing how the researcher answered the research questions and met the research objectives in the conclusion. The results implied that the teacher implemented the snowball-throwing technique based on teaching and learning theories and methods, activities are learner-centered and, students participated actively.
