Studi ini menyelidiki persepsi siswa tentang menonton film berbahasa Inggris untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Sampel terdiri dari 114 mahasiswa semester 5 dan 7 di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Syiah Kuala. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling, dimana sampel dipilih dengan mempertimbangkan kelompok tertentu yang memenuhi standar penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui survei dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Kuesioner yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner tertutup yang jawabannya sudah disediakan sehingga responden memilih dan menjawabnya secara langsung. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para peserta menanggapi secara positif menonton film berbahasa Inggris dalam mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara. Responden percaya bahwa menonton film berbahasa Inggris membantu mereka mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara. Para siswa juga setuju bahwa film berbahasa Inggris adalah alat media pembelajaran yang baik. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa persepsi siswa tentang menonton film berbahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara adalah positif.
This study investigates students' perceptions of watching English films to develop speaking skills. The method used in this research was a descriptive quantitative research method. The sample consisted of 114 5thand 7th-semester students in the English Department of Syiah Kuala University. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, where the sample was selected by considering certain groups that meet research standards. Data collection was done through a survey using a questionnaire. The questionnaire used in this study was a closed questionnaire whose answers had been provided so that respondents chose and answered it directly. The data were analyzed by using quantitative analyses. The research results show that the participants positively responded to watching English movies in developing speaking skills. The respondents believe that watching English movies helps them to develop speaking skills. The students also agreed that English movies are good instructional media tools. It can be concluded that the student’s perception of watching English movies to improve speaking skills is positive.
