This study aims at examining whether the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique improves students’ writing skill or not. This study focused on the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique in teaching writing skill for second grade students at SMA Negeri 6 Banda Aceh. Quantitative approach with true experimental study of pretest-postest control group design was undertaken to overcome the problems faced by students in learning writing skill. The instrument used to collect the data in this study by means of the test in the form of written test. This research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation result showed that observed t value is higher than t critical value in the t distribution table (4.74 > 1.67) at the 0.05 level of significance. It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The result of this study revealed there is a significant increase related to students’ ability in writing skill. Thus, CIRC can be one of alternative techniques used by the teacher in teaching English particularly teaching writing in EFL class.</note>
