Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui motivasi mahasiswa memilih jurusan pendidikan ekonomi fakultas keguruan dan ilmu pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian ex post facto yang merupakan penelitian yang mengungkapkan fakta berdasarkan pengukuran gejala yang telah ada pada diri informan sebelum penelitian ini dilakukan. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, maka metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hal ini disebabkan karena peneliti bermaksud memahami situasi sosial secara mendalam, menemukan pola, hipotesis dan teori. Dalam penelitian ini penentuan Informan menggunakan metode Purposive Sampling yang merupakan suatu teknik pengambilan informan yang bersifat khusus dan mempunyai kompetensi tertentu. Kriteria yang digunakan yaitu: (1) informan merupakan mahasiswa jurusan pendidikan ekonomi FKIP USK angkatan 2021, pemilihan kriteria ini bertujuan agar penelitian memperoleh hasil yang sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian dan untuk menghindari bias jawaban dari mahasiswa, (2) Informan telah melakukan pengisian KRS online untuk semester 1. Dengan menggunakan metode tersebut, diperoleh informan sebanyak 8 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan penelitian lapangan yaitu observasi dan wawancara melalui aplikasi zoom. Selanjutnya data dianalisis menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis. Selanjutnya data diolah dengan cara: (a) mereduksi data, (b) penyajian data dan (c) penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa motivasi mahasiswa memilih jurusan pendidikan ekonomi terdiri atas motivasi internal dan eksternal. Motivasi internal meliputi sebanyak 7 orang (88%) yaitu karena (1) Intusi/perasaan sebesar 50%, (2) minat dan pengalaman belajar yang baik di bidang ekonomi sebesar 37,5. Motivasi eksternal yang meliputi sebanyak 1 orang (12%) yaitu karena faktor prospek kerja yang banyak.

This study aims to determine the motivation of students to choose the department of economic education, faculty of teacher training and education, Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh. This research is an ex post facto study which is a study that reveals facts based on measurements of symptoms that have existed in informants before this study was carried out. To achieve this goal, the methodused in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. This is because the researcher intends to understand the social situation in depth, find patterns, hypotheses and theories. In this study, the determination of informants used the Purposive Sampling method which is a technique for taking informants that are special in nature and have certain competencies. The criteria used are: (1) the informant is a student majoring in economic education FKIP USK class of 2021, the selection of this criterion aims to make the research obtain results that are in accordance with the research objectives and to avoid biased answers from students, (2) Informants have filled out online KRS for semester 1. Using this method, 8 people were obtained. Data collection techniques use field research, namely observation and interviews through the zoom application. Furthermore, the data are analyzed using adescriptive method of analysis. Furthermore, the data is processed by: (a) reducing the data, (b) presenting the data and (c) drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that the motivation of students to choose an economic education major consists of internal and external motivations. Internal motivation includes as many as 7 people (88%) namely due to (1) Intusi / feelings of 50%, (2) good interest and experiencein the field of economics of 37.5. External motivation which includes as many as 1 person (12%) is due to many job prospect factors. Keywords: Motivation, Student, Department of Economic Education.
