Interaksi dosen-mahasiswa merupakan salah satu faktor yang diharapkan dapat mempengaruhi persepsi mahasiswa, tetapi korelasi antara variabel-variabel ini sedang diteliti di antara mahasiswa EFL di kelas online. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini difokuskan pada persepsi siswa, terkait dengan interaksi, di kelas berbicara online untuk mengidentifikasi korelasi antara variabel. Penelitian kuantitatif ini menggunakan dua set kuesioner, yaitu persepsi siswa tentang kelas berbicara online dan Kuesioner tentang Interaksi Guru (QTI) yang diisi oleh 112 mahasiswa S1 EFL. Data dianalisis menggunakan korelasi Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa faktor interaksi dosen-mahasiswa berkorelasi dengan kemanfaatan pembelajaran online, kecuali kebebasan, teguran, dan ketegasan. Selain itu, sebagian besar faktor interaksi dosen-mahasiswa berkorelasi dengan efisiensi pembelajaran online, kecuali ketidakpastian. Namun, hanya dua faktor interaksi dosen-mahasiswa, yaitu ketidakpastian dan teguran, yang berkorelasi dengan niat mahasiswa. Selanjutnya, kepemimpinan, pengertian, tolong menolong, dan kebebasan sebagai faktor interaksi dosen-mahasiswa berkorelasi dengan persepsi mahasiswa. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa interaksi dosen-mahasiswa berkorelasi dengan persepsi mahasiswa di kelas berbicara online di kalangan mahasiswa sarjana EFL. Oleh karena itu, dosen disarankan untuk tetap terhubung dengan mahasiswa dan membiarkan mereka menentukan pendekatan mereka sendiri dalam pembelajaran.
Lecturer-student interaction is one of the factors expected to affect student perception, but the correlation between these variables is under researched among EFL students in an online class. Therefore, the current study is focused on the students’ perception, related to the interaction, in online speaking classes to identify the correlation between the variables. This quantitative research used two sets of questionnaires, i.e., students’ perception of online speaking class and Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction (QTI) completed by 112 undergraduate EFL students. The data were analyzed using Spearman correlation. The results showed that some factors of lecturer-student interaction were correlated to the usefulness of online learning, except freedom, admonishing, and strictness. In addition, most of the factors of lecturer-student interaction were correlated to the efficiency of online learning, except uncertainty. However, only two factors of lecturer-student interaction, namely uncertainty and admonishing, were correlated to students’ intention. Furthermore, leadership, understanding, helpfulness, and freedom as the factors of lecturer-student interaction were correlated to students’ perception. These results suggest that lecturer-student interaction correlated with students’ perception in online speaking classes among EFL undergraduate students. Therefore, lecturers are suggested to stay connected with students and let them decides their own approach in learning.
