Uji penyelidikan tanah diperlukan untuk mengetahui karakteristik tanah, seperti susunan lapisan tanah/sifat tanah, kekuatan lapisan tanah dan kadar air dalam rangka penyelidikan tanah dasar. Kualitas tanah sendiri dapat diketahui melalui hasil pemeriksaan sifat-sifat tanah, yaitu dengan pengujian sifat fisis tanah, dan khususnya pemeriksaan kadar air tanah dengan pengujian batas susut tanah untuk mendapatkan kadar air maksimum. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, dilakukan penelitian ini dengan Tujuan adalah Untuk mengetahui nilai batas susut berdasarkan SNI
3422/2008 dan mengetahui nilai perubahan volume batas susut. Penelitian ini menggunakan alat boring atau standart penetration test (SPT). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian analisa saringan Menurut klasifikasi AASHTO dan pengujian sifat-sifat fisis tanah, berdasarkan enam nilai PI titik sampel tanah pada area lokasi Alue Siwah, Block A Medco E&P Malaka Tahap II Kabupaten Aceh Timur digolongkan dengan masing – masing golongan yaitu; titik 1 tanah kelompok A-4, titik 2 tanah kelompok A-7-5, titik 3 tanah kelompok A-7-5, titik 4 tanah kelompok A-7-5, titik 5 tanah kelompok A-4, dan titik 6 tanah kelompok A-6. Maka jenis jenis tanah yang mendominasi pada area tersebut yaitu tanah kelompok A-7-5 yang merupakan jenis tanah lempung tak organik dengan plastisitas rendah sampai sedang, lempung krikil, lempung berpasir, lempung berlanau, dan lempung kurus. Dengan nilai grup indeks ( GI) tanah lokasi 1 adalah 3, tanah lokasi 2 sebesar 21, tanah lokasi 3 adalah 26, tanah lokasi 4 sebesar 20, tanah lokasi 5 adalah 2 dan untuk tanah lokasi 6 adalah 18
Dan dari hasil pengujian batas susut telah didapatkan nilai batas susut pada sampel tanah pada area lokasi Alue Siwah, Block A Medco E&P Malaka Tahap II Kabupaten Aceh Timur pada titik 1 sebesar 28,67%, pada titik 2 sebesar 12,70%, pada titik 3 sebesar 11,70%, pada titik 4 sebesar 13,03%, pada titik 5 sebesar 32,47% dan pada titik 6 sebesar 14,70%. Nilai batas susut yang di peroleh pada penelitian ini dapat digunakan untuk menghitung perubahan volume yang terjadi. Perubahan volume tanah umumnya terjadi pada jenis tanah kohesif (lempung dan lanau). Nilai perubahan volume pada penelitian ini yaitu pada titik 1 sebesar 18,83 %, pada titik 2 sebesar 2.95 %, pada titik 3 sebesar 29,76 %, pada titik 4 sebesar 14,29 %, pada titik
5 sebesar 18,11 % dan pada titik 6 sebesar 8,32 %.

ABSTRACT Soil investigation tests are needed to determine the characteristics of the soil, such as the composition of the soil layer/soil properties, the strength of the soil layer and water content in the context of investigating the subgrade. The quality of the soil itself can be known through the results of the examination of soil properties, namely by testing the physical properties of the soil, and in particular the examination of the soil water content by testing the soil shrinkage limit to obtain the maximum water content. Based on these problems, this research was conducted with the aim of knowing the value of the shrinkage limit based on SNI 3422/2008 and knowing the value of changes in the volume of the shrinkage limit. This research uses boring tools or standard penetration test (SPT). Based on the results of sieve analysis research. According to the AASHTO classification and testing of soil physical properties, based on the six PI values ​​of the soil sample points in the Alue Siwah location area, Block A Medco E&P Malaka Phase II East Aceh Regency is classified into each group, namely; point 1 land group A-4, point 2 land group A-7-5, point 3 land group A-7-5, point 4 land group A-7-5, point 5 land group A-4, and point 6 land group A-6. So the type of soil that dominates in the area is group A-7-5 soil which is an inorganic clay type with low to medium plasticity, gravel clay, sandy clay, silty clay, and thin clay. With the index group value ( GI) for location 1 land is 3, land for location 2 is 21, land for location 3 is 26, land for location 4 is 20, land for location 5 is 2 and for land location 6 is 18. And from the results of the shrinkage limit test, it has been found that the shrinkage limit value on the soil sample in the Alue Siwah location area, Block A Medco E&P Malaka Phase II, East Aceh Regency at point 1 is 28.67%, at point 2 is 12.70%, at point 1 is 12.70%. 3 at 11.70%, at point 4 at 13.03%, at point 5 at 32.47% and at point 6 at 14.70%. The shrinkage limit value obtained in this study can be used to calculate the volume change that occurs. Changes in soil volume generally occur in cohesive soil types (clay and silt). The value of the volume change in this study is at point 1 of 18.83%, at point 2 of 2.95%, at point 3 of 29.76%, at point 4 of 14.29%, at point 5 is 18.11% and at point 6 is 8.32%.
