Attitude toward Information Communication And
Technology Use In EFL Classroom

(A Survey at Islamic Senior Boarding Schools in
Aceh)

Keywords: Teachers’ attitude, ICT Use, EFL classroom

The study described English teachers' attitudes toward ICT use in EFL classrooms,
teachers' ability to use ICT, and factors that impede ICT use in the classroom. The method
used in this research was a survey involving 20 English teachers as participants who teach
in seven Islamic senior boarding schools in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The instruments
used to collect the data were a questionnaire, an interview guide and focus group
discussion. Besides, the data from questionnaire were analyzed using the quantitative
procedure and the data from interview and focus group discussion were analyzed using
qualitative data analysis. The findings revealed that most teachers have a positive attitude
toward ICT use in EFL classrooms. They have perceived that ICT is essential in
education, particularly in teaching English and other subjects. Furthermore, teachers’
ability to use ICT in teaching English is good, although they still need to improve their
knowledge or skills in ICT. Likewise, some factors have impeded ICT use in the EFL
classrooms, such as limited accessibility, lack of ICT equipment, and lack of teachers
training. In short, teachers' attitude and ability are two important aspects for English
teachers to have good personality and professional competence in teaching EFL
classrooms.</note>
