Kemampuan representasi matematis adalah kemampuan siswa dalam mengungkapkan ide-ide matematika yang dapat berupa diagram, tabel, grafik, simbol matematika, model matematika, dan kata-kata sebagai alat bantu untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan. kemampuan representasi sangat penting dalam mempelajari matematika sehingga perlu dimiliki oleh setiap siswa. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa di smp negeri 1 sukamakmur aceh besar. adapun pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah mixed methods dengan jenis sekuensial eksplanatori. subjek penelitian ialah seluruh siswa kelas ix di smp negeri 1 sukamakmur. pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen tes kemampuan representasi matematis, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan wawancara dan observasi kegiatan pembelajaran. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan representasi matematis siswa di smp negeri 1 sukamakmur tergolong sedang dan rendah. data hasil tes menunjukkan perolehan nilai rata-rata siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal tes hanya mencapai angka 32 dengan 3 siswa memperoleh nilai kategori tinggi atau 17,65% , 11 siswa dengan kategori sedang atau 58,82%, dan 4 siswa lainnya berada di kategori rendah atau 23,53% sementara itu berdasarkan wawancara ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami dan mengerjakan soal representasi yang diberikan. kata kunci: representasi matematis, materi lingkaran

Mathematical representation ability is the ability of students to express mathematical ideas which can be in the form of diagrams, tables, graphs, mathematical symbols, mathematical models, and words as tools to solve problems. The ability of representation is very important in learning mathematics so that every student needs to have it. This study aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of students at SMP Negeri 1 Sukamakmur Aceh Besar. The approach used in this research is mixed methods with explanatory sequential type. The research subjects were all grade IX students at SMP Negeri 1 Sukamakmur. Research data collection was carried out using a mathematical representation ability test instrument, then continued with interviews and observations of learning activities. The results showed that the mathematical representation ability of students at SMP Negeri 1 Sukamakmur was classified as moderate and low. The test result data shows that the average score of students in completing the test questions only reached 32 with 3 students getting a high category score or 17.65%, 11 students in the medium category or 58.82%, and 4 other students being in the low category. or 23.53%. Meanwhile, based on interviews, it was found that most of the students still had difficulties in understanding and working on the representation questions given.
