Abstract

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, RESEARCH, AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITAS SYIAH KUALA FACULTY OF NURSING NURSING SCIENCE DEPARTMENT UNDERGRADUATE THESIS January 25, 2022 xv + VI Chapters + 65 Pages + 8 Tables + 1 Scheme + 13 Appendices NUR RISKA AMALIA 1812101010027 CORRELATING RESILIENCE TO ACADEMIC STRESS OF FIRST YEAR STUDENTS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC ABSTRACT The increasing prevalence of Covid-19 has resulted in lifestyle changes of people around the world, including in the field of education. The online learning system that has been put in place by the government so far in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and the risk of death has caused several obstacles during the learning process, such as high level of academic stress among students. The objective of this research was to find out the relationship between resilience and academic stress of first year students during Covid-19 pandemic. The population members of this research were the first year students of Nursing Faculty at Universitas Syiah Kuala. From this population, a number of 136 respondents were chosen by using a total sampling technique. The data were collected by distributing two standardised questionnaires, namely The Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) and Student Academic Stress Scale (SASS). The results showed the average score of resilience of 113.76 and the average score of academic stress of 145. After being analysed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient, the data showed r-score of -0.411 and p-value of 0.000 which indicated a negative and significant realtionship between resilience and academic stress of the first year students of Nursing Faculty at Universitas Syiah Kuala. Hence, it is suggested that the learning materials are delivered by using the methods which are easy to understand in order to minimize the level of academic stress encountered by the students.
