Sintesis komposit polyester timbal dengan penambahan barium sulfat untuk aplikasi perisai radiasi telah dilakukan. penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh penambahan barium sulfat dan ketebalan sampel terhadap karakteristik komposit yang meliputi densitas, koefisien atenuasi sinar-x, dan transmitansi cahaya. komposit poliyester timbal disentesa menggunakan resin sebagai matrik, dan timbal asetat (pb(ch3coo)2) serta barium sulfat (baso4) sebagai filler. pembuatan sampel menggunakan metode blending. konsentrasi barium sulfat divariasikan dari 0 %wt, 2 %wt, 3 %wt, 4 %wt, 5 %wt dan 6 %wt, dan ketebalan sampel divariasikan dari 0.5 cm, 0.75 cm, 1.0 cm dan 1.25 cm. selanjutnya, sampel diuji densitas, koefisien atenuasi sinar-x menggunakan pesawat sinar-x merk ge dan detektor multimeter xray, serta transmitansi cahaya menggunakan asd spektroradiometer. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketebalan komposit tidak mempengaruhi nilai densitas dan koefisien atenuasi sinar-x. akan tetapi, nilai transmitansi cahaya menurun seiring bertambahnya ketebalan sampel. penambahan konsentrasi barium sulfat mampu meningkatkan nilai densitas dan koefisien atenuasi sinar-x, namun akan menurunkan nilai transmitansi cahaya. pada sampel dengan kosentrasi barium sulfat 6 %wt, diperoleh nilai densitas yang memenuhi standar iso yaitu 1,606 g/cm3 dan koefisien atenuasi yaitu 3,26 cm-1. kata kunci: poliester timbal, barium sulfat, densitas, koefisien atenuasi, transmitansi cahaya.

Abstract
Synthesis of lead polyester composites with the addition of barium sulfate for radiation shielding applications has been carried out. This study aims to determine the effect of adding barium sulfate and sample thickness to composite characteristics including density, X-ray attenuation coefficient, and light transmittance. The lead polyester composite was synthesized using resin as the matrix, and lead acetate (Pb(CH3COO)2) and barium sulfate (BaSO4) as filler. The samples were prepared using the blending method. The concentration of barium sulfate was varied from 0 %wt, 2 %wt, 3 %wt, 4 %wt, 5 %wt and 6 %wt, and the thickness of the sample was varied from 0.5 cm, 0.75 cm, 1.0 cm and 1.25 cm. Furthermore, the samples were tested for density, X-ray attenuation coefficient using a GE brand X-ray machine and an X-ray multimeter detector, and light transmittance using an ASD spectroradiometer. The results showed that the thickness of the composite did not affect the density and X-ray attenuation coefficient of the samples. However, the light transmittance value decreases with increasing sample thickness. The addition of v barium sulfate concentration can increase the density value and X-ray attenuation coefficient, but will decrease the light transmittance value. In the sample with a concentration of barium sulfate 6 %wt, the obtained density value that meets ISO standards is 1.606 g/cm3 and the attenuation coefficient is 3.26 cm-1.
