Remote sensing technology combined with geographical information systems for the purpose of monitoring the land is very important especially when associated with data collection fast and accurate. changes in land use before and after the tsunami in the syiah kuala district of banda aceh also be monitored by both technologies. this monitoring is done by image analysis ikonos 2004, quickbird 2009, and supported by field surveys and supervised classification methods and selected 4 sample classes and a class of population. image analysis performed with the software aregis, multispecwin32, and spss14.0. the results showed that the decrease and increase of land uses. in the built up area bas decreased of 23,85 ha in 2004 to 2009, and the vegetation area has decreased of 110,89 hectares . in the year 2004-2009 the waters body increased has of 93,31 ha and the vacant land 41,44 ha. two years later in 2011 the built up area and vegetation area bad additions, while for vacant land and waters body bas decreased . 1n 2004• 2009 the population increased by 4.815 peoples, and the years 2009-2011 increased by 2.286 peoples. keywords: geographic information systems, remote sensing, change ofland use.
