Abstrak kurang efektifnya kegiatan belajar mengajar merupakan salah satu faktor yang menyebabkan rendahnya kemampuan representasi matematis peserta didik. kemampuan representasi matematis dapat ditingkatkan dengan pembelajaran yang tepat, salah satunya dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking yang merupakan suatu cara yang dapat menghubungkan konsep matematika ke konsep yang lebih dikenal oleh peserta didik di kehidupan sehari-hari. pendekatan metaphorical thinking bertujuan memberi ruang kepada peserta didik untuk lebih diberikan cara berpikir yang menggunakan metafora-metafora untuk memahami suatu konsep. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kemampuan representasi matematis peserta didik dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking pada materi bentuk aljabar. penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik di kelas vii-e smps islam al-falah yang berjumlah 16 peserta didik. data terkait dengan kemampuan representasi matematis dikumpulkan dengan cara memberikan tes dan wawancara. berdasarkan hasil tes tulis, maka wawancara dilakukan berdasarkan jawaban peserta didik untuk melihat kemampuan representasi matematis. hal ini menunjukkan bahwa setiap peserta didik mempunyai representasi matematis masing-masing sesuai keadaanya. akan tetapi, dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking peserta didik banyak yang memenuhi kategori mampu untuk menyelesaikan soal di setiap indikator representasi matematis. terdapat beberapa subjek yang belum mampu menyelesaikan soal di setiap indikator karena terdapat beberapa alasan salah satunya, tidak menyukai pelajaran matematika. kata kunci: kemampuan representasi matematis, metaphorical thinking, bentuk aljabar

The ineffectiveness of teaching and learning activities is one of the factors that causes the low ability of students' mathematical representation. The ability of mathematical representation can be improved with appropriate learning, one of which is by using a metaphorical thinking approach which is a way that can connect mathematical concepts to concepts that are better known by students in everyday life. The metaphorical thinking approach aims to provide space for students to be given a way of thinking that uses metaphors to understand a concept. This study aims to determine how the mathematical representation ability of students with a metaphorical thinking approach to the material of Algebraic Forms. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The subjects of this study were students in class VII-E of SMPS Islam Al-Falah, totaling 16 students. Data related to mathematical representation ability were collected by giving tests and interviews. Based on the results of the written test, the interview was conducted based on the students' answers to see the mathematical representation ability. This shows that each student has their own mathematical representation according to their circumstances. However, with the metaphorical thinking approach, many students meet the category of being able to solve problems in each indicator of mathematical representation. There are several subjects who have not been able to solve the problems in each indicator because there are several reasons, one of which is not liking mathematics.
