This study is entitled "the implementation of direct method in teaching speaking." the objective of this study is to look at some given theories and/or research findings on the use of direct method in teaching skill. the discussion of this method is focused on the effectiveness of using direct method in solving students' problem in teaching-learning process of speaking skill. through this study. it is found that the implementation of direct method in teaching speaking can motivate the student to speak english. the students can practice their english continually in the classroom both with the teacher and also with their classmates. no translation is allowed in direct method's principle strives the class to be active in speaking. the method used in this study is library research. readings obtained from various are processed and described in a descriptive way. based on the research finding and experts' statement, it is found that direct method can be one of effective methods to encourage students highly to speak english. this study is expected to be useful for other english teachers.
