This thesis is entitled the influence of mastering parts of speech in assessing cloze procedure test in reading ( a case study of fourth semester students at english department, teacher training and education faculty, syiah kuala university). the aim of doing this research is to find out whether there is any influence of mastering parts of speech in assessing cloze procedure test. furthermore, she wants to know whether students who have higher score in parts of speech test also have higher score in cloze procedure test. to collect the data, the writer conducted a research at english department, teacher training and education faculty, syiah kuala university. she chose the fourth semester students as the samples of her research. she gave two kinds of test, namely, cloze procedure test and parts of speech test. each kind of test consists of twenty items. after the writer got the result of the test, she analyzed and processed them statistically by using rank-order coefficient formula. the finding of the formula rho = 0,51. it means that both parts of speech test and cloze procedure test have correlation. the writer found that there is any influence of mastering part of speech in assessing cloze procedure test and the students who have higher score in parts of speech test also have higher score in cloze procedure test.
