Name : ainul mardhiah student no. : 0706 102080020 study program : english title : small group work in reading comprehension this study is entitled "small group work in reading comprehension". reading is one of the skills in english which asks the students to comprehend what they have read such as main idea, inferring, detail and vocabulary. generally, the students are quite difficult in mastering main idea than other aspects in reading. small group work is one of techniques based on communicative approach which can be used in teaching english especially in teaching reading to give solution for the students who get problem in comprehending the reading text. the purpose of this study is to explore some theories, statements or research findings which would be useful for improving teachers' ability in teaching reading which then leads to the improvement of the students' skill of reading. the method which is used in this study is library research to investigate the use of small group work based on communicative approach. the result of this study showed that small group work strength the relationship among the students. small group work is one of techniques based on cooperative learning which can be used in teaching english especially in teaching reading to give solution for the students who get problem in comprehending the reading text. reading is one of the skills in english which asks the students to comprehend what they have read such as main idea, inferring, detail and vocabulary. generally, the students are quite difficult 10 mastering main idea than other aspects in reading. therefore, meeting by meeting the learning atmosphere in the classroom will be more enjoyable. it gives good influence to the students' motivation in learning.
