Nama : ida muliawati nim : 0606102020031 program studi : pendidikan bahasa iggris judul : a comparative study between the students of science program and social program in reading comprehension this thesis entitled "a comparative study between the students of science program and social program in reading comprehension (a study of the second year students of science program and social program at sman 12 banda aceh)" attempts to find out the different achievement in reading comprehension and factors causing the difference between the students in both programs based on the same english teacher teaching in the classes. method applied in this research is descriptive quantitative method. population of this research is 30 students from science program (xl la-i) and 30 social program (xi is-l ). sample of the research is 40 students. the data was collected by giving reading comprehension test and questionnaire. the reading comprehension test result is science program students get better score than those in social program. the reading comprehension test is analyzed by using mean score, variance, standard deviation, and t-score. the t-score for the test is 3,67. it is higher than decision [criterion for p < 2,042 at 0,05 level of significance (3,67 > 2,0420)]. it proved that the achievement in reading comprehension between the students of both programs is different although they are taught by the same english teacher. the questionnaire is analyzed in percentage to find out the factors causing the different in reading comprehension; language attitude, intelligency, and motivation from each students of the classes.
