Name : lsniar kumala sari student no : 0706102050030 study program : english department title : the application of contextual teaching and learning in reading comprehension at junior high school reading descriptive text is an important skill for students in learning english as foreign language because by reading, students can obtain information and understand about the descriptive text . students encounter problems in reading, such as lack of vocabulary, the use of inappropriate method by the teachers, students' low involvement in class and students' lack of motivation. to overcome these problems, the teachers should apply an appropriate method in teaching reading. the appropriate method is ctl. ctl can increase students' ability in reading comprehension. ctl approach makes students motivated and enjoy learning english, because through ctl they can connect the lesson to their real life. there are seven main components of ctl: constructivism, questioning, inquiry, learning community, modelling, reflection and aunthentic assesment. the aim of this study is to explore some theories related to cfl which can be applied in junior high schools. in this method, students are expected to be more active in teaching learning process. the method used in this study was library research which is a kind of research that collected the data based on theories or experts' statements and the data were not analyzed by statistic form. the finding shows that by applying ctl, students can be more active in learning process because they can relate academic subject with the context of daily lives.
