Name : putri ubaida munzaki student no : 0706102050017 study program : english education title : toe implementation of student team achievement division (stad) in teaching reading skill for students at sekolah menengah atas (sma) the objective of this study is to discuss some given theories and research findings related to the use of cooperative learning in teaching reading skill. this study employs a library research design. in obtaining data, the writer collected and analyzed information from books, journals, magazines, articles, previous research or another related sources. the discussion of the approach is focused on a particular technique under the cooperative learning method it is student team achievement division (stad). stad encourages student motivation in learning, this technique will ask student to learn in a group, although they have to understand individually (slavin: 1996). cooperative learning introduced teacher to create a nice situation in teaching learning activity and divide student into a small team to solve problem together (herdian: 1999, isjoni; 2009). the writer concludes that using stad in teaching reading is one of alternative technique to improve student ability in reading comprehension. it is good to implement in teaching reading because stad will created a good cooperate in learning that forced students to help each other in understanding teaching material (slavin : 1996). the writer suggest to the teachers to use stad technique in teaching learning process, especially in reading.
