Term indigenization refers to the use of indonesian language terms in the english translation of the pramoedya ananta toer’s ‘bumi manusia’ to preserve the concepts of indonesian/javanese culture which might not find their exact cognates in english. this research investigates the indonesianization of english in the novel’s translation. this research was focused on the lexical indigenization by leech and short (2007) which consists of nouns, adjectives, and verbs. the data were analyzed using miles, huberman, and saldana’s (2014) interactive model analysis starting from data condensation, data display, and data verification. the subject of this research was the novel ‘bumi manusia’, this earth of mankind, while the object of this research was the indigenized forms of lexical categories. the result shows that there are 22 indigenized lexical items found in the novel. from the point of view of word class, the indigenized lexical items include nouns (21 items) and adjectives (1 item). the items found can also be classified into a number of different themes which include forms of address (10), clothes or fashion (5), titles nobility (2), occupations (1), social status (1) and abstract noun (2). it is shown that the most dominant indigenized word class found in the translation of the novel was noun. regarding which theme is mostly indigenized the result of this research show that forms of address to appear more than others. keywords: certified english teacher, performance, teaching and learning
