The presence of digital recording technology has made it easier to notice the language change. this research aims to analyze directive speech acts performed by all character in two movies from two different eras entitled green book and florence foster jenkins. this research was concerned on directive speech acts in types, forms, and social functions and also socio-pragmatic analysis in the two movies from two different eras that is 1940s and 1960s. this study adopts socio-pragmatic approach by culpeper (2011) and conversational analysis by cruse (2006). the data were analyzed using interactive model analysis by miles, huberman, and saldana (2014). the steps are data condensation, data display, and data verification. besides, the researcher used the thematic method proposed by wertz, et.al (2011). the result indicates that the type of directive speech acts from florence foster jenkins were 81% belongs to instruction, 11% belongs to advice, 7% belongs to warning and the lowest rank frequency is threat type with only 1%. meanwhile in green book, the instruction type was 75%, 15% belongs to advice, 6% belongs to warning and 4% for threat type. then, the result shows in imperative form in florence foster jenkins, there were 87% belongs to imperative form, 7% belongs to declarative form and 6% belongs to interrogative. while in green book, imperative form was 76%, 19% for declarative form and only 5% for interrogative form. last, in florence foster jenkins, there were 96% belongs to competitive functions. the lowest rank frequency is convivial with zero data. besides that, collaborative function was 3% and conflictive only 1%. meanwhile in green book, competitive function was 87%, collaborative was 8%, conflictive was 4% and the lowest frequency was convivial with 1%. besides that, the researcher observed the socio-pragmatics side used by all actors including; age, gender, social rank, and social distance. the finding shows that the differences in age, gender and social status greatly affect a person in using the type of directive speech acts that they used. an educated person with a high good social status in his social environment will affect in his interaction.
