Jigsaw is a cooperative learning technique which enables each student to master in one aspect of learning material and have a responsibility to teach the learning material to his or her friends in group. the objective of this study is to look at some given theories and/or research on the use of jigsaw technique for teaching speaking skill. the discussion of the technique is focused on principles of jigsaw technique for teaching speaking skill. the study indicates that using jigsaw technique not only facilitates students to improve speaking skill, but also develop social skill. teaching speaking skill by using jigsaw technique is one of an effective way to replace some of the competitive behavior in the classroom with cooperative behavior. it is also found that the students are highly motivated and pleased to learn the language by using this method in teaching speaking of language. the method used in this study is library research. readings obtained from various are processed and described in a descriptive way. based on the research findings and experts' statements, jigsaw technique is effective to increase interaction among students. this study is expected to be useful for other english teachers.
