Abstrak paparan sinar uv yang berlebihan akan memberikan dampak negatif bagi kulit manusia, yakni seperti penuaan dini, kulit terbakar, pigmentasi, keriput dan juga kanker kulit. oleh karena itu sangat penting untuk melindungi kulit dari paparan sinar uv. salah satu cara agar kulit tetap terlindung dari radiasi sinar uv adalah dengan menggunakan sunscreen (tabir surya) berbentuk lotion. uji aktivitas lotion sunscreen ekstrak etanol tumbuhan scurrula ferruginea jack danser bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas sunscreen dari ekstrak, subfraksi, lotion ekstrak dan lotion subfraksi serta mengetahui sifat fisik lotion. ekstrak etanol tumbuhan scurrula ferruginea jack danser diperoleh sebanyak 2,105%. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak/subfraksi dan lotion menunjukkan aktivitas yang baik sebagai sunscreen, hal ini ditunjukkan dari nilai sun protection factor (spf) ekstrak etanol pada konsentrasi 2% hingga 12% berkisar antara 32,270 ± 0,227 hingga 38,171 ± 0,440, sedangkan nilai spf lotion ekstrak berkisar antara 21,358 ± 0,098 hingga 34,665 ± 0,315. nilai spf subfraksi a-e berkisar antara 27,383 ± 0,407 hingga 34,719 ± 0,162, sedangkan nilai spf lotion subfraksi a-e berkisar antara 23,448 ± 0,147 hingga 32,039 ± 0,171. hasil pengujian sifat fisik lotion menunjukkan bahwa tipe emulsi lotion adalah m/a (minyak dalam air). nilai ph lotion ekstrak berada pada range 6,082-7,801. nilai viskositas berada pada range 1977-4850 cp. nilai daya sebar berada pada range 4,40-6,25 cm dan nilai daya lekat berada pada range 12,03-20,95 detik. nilai ini sesuai dengan standard yang telah ditetapkan pada pengujian sifak fisik lotion. nilai spf senyawa murni ssf5-7 diperoleh sebesar 21,358 ± 0,011. hasil uji fitokimia dan karakterisasi gc-ms ekstrak tumbuhan s. ferruginea jack danser, diduga senyawa murni ssf5-7 merupakan senyawa caffeine. kata kunci : scurrula ferruginea jack danser, sinar uv, spf (sun protection factor), sunscreen, lotion abstract the excessive of uv exposure will have many negative impacts on the human skin, such as aging, sunburn, pigmentation, wrinkles and skin cancer too. therefore it is very important to protect the skin from uv rays. one of the best way to protect the skin from uv rays is by using a sunscreen in the form of a lotion. this study aims to determine the effectiveness extracts, subfractions and lotions from the ethanol extract of s. ferruginea jack danser plant and to determine the physical properties of the lotion. the ethanol extract was obtained 2.105 %. the result showed that ethanol extract/subfraction and lotion was good activity as a sunscreen. the spf value of ethanol extract at a concentration of 2% to 12% ranged from 32.270 ± 0.227 to 38.171 ± 0.440, while the spf value for the extract lotion ranged from 21.358 ± 0.098 to 34.665 ± 0.315. the spf value of the subfraction (a-e) ranged from 27.383 ± 0.407 to 34.719 ± 0.162, while the spf value of the lotion subfraction (a-e) ranged from 23.448 ± 0.147 to 32.039 ± 0.171. the results of lotion physical properties test showed that the lotion was o/w (oil in air). the ph value of the extract lotion was in the range of 6.082-7.801. the viscosity value was in the range 1977-4850 cp. the value of the spreadability is in the range of 4.40-6.25 cm and the value of adhesion was in the range 12.03-20.95 seconds. this value is in accordance with the standards set in the lotion's physical properties test. the spf value of the pure compound ssf5-7 was 21.358 ± 0.011. the result of phytochemical test and gc-ms characterization from the extract, the pure compound ssf5-7 was suspected to be caffeine compound. key words: scurrula ferruginea jack danser, uv rays, spf (sun protection factor), sunscreen, lotion
