This research aimed to analyze multimodal on 10 bestseller fantasy novel covers in 2019, obtained from the amazon website. this study employed visual grammar theory by kress and van leeuwen (2006) based on multimodal text and the qualitative method. this research found the representational and interactive functions of 10 bestseller fantasy novel covers in 2019. the analysis shows that some images and symbols on the novel covers have implicit meanings related to the novel’s contents. several novels have a narrative aspect, and others contain conceptual interpretation, which is part of a representative function. it is found that it is a challenge to interpret some implicit meaning of the symbols in some of these novels, in which the analysis requires the connection to mythology. therefore, it is hoped that understanding the implicit meaning comprehensively can make it easier for readers to understand the story’s outline in the novel.
