Abstract name : asmaul husna student no. : 0806102020081 study program : english education title : using total physical response to improve students’ listening skill (fifth grade students at sdn 16 banda aceh) keywords: total physical response, listening skill the purpose of this study is to improve young learners’ listening skill by using total physical response therefore this research was conducted at sdn 16 banda aceh. the researcher took the class v-b which consist of 30 students as the sample of this research. the method of this research is an experimental quantitative method by using the one-group pretest-posttest design, which involved single group pretest (o1), exposed to a treatment (x), and posttest (o2). the instruments used in this research included pre test and post test. pre test was given in order to know the students’ listening ability before the treatments, while the post test was given to find out the students’ improvement in listening skill after the treatments given. in the treatment, the writer used total physical response procedures in teaching and learning process of listening skill, which conducted four times of class meeting (8 x 35 minutes). the result of this research showed that tpr can improve the students’ listening skill. it can be proven with the mean score of both pre-test and post-test. in the pre-test, the mean score is 55,83, and the mean score of post-test is 80,33 in addition, the value of t-test that is 4,11 while the critical value of t-table at the significance level of 0.05 (5%) is 2.00. in other word, t-score value is higher than critical value t-table ( t= 4,11> t_t = 2,00). hence, this research is expected to be useful for english teachers in teaching listening skill.
