The objective of conducting this research was to find out whether the use of picture strip stories media can improve students’ speaking skill or not. this is an experimental study that involved one group pretest-posttest design. the population of this research was the first grade students of smp negeri 10 banda aceh. the sample of this study was students of class vii.b which selected by using purposive sampling technique. the instrument of data collection was tests (pre-test and post-test) and recorder. the result of data analysis showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test was 62 and in post-test was 83.82. moreover, the analysis of t-test showed that ttest > ttable or 8.142 > 1.721 at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 21. it means that the use of picture strip stories media improve students’ speaking skill especially in vocabulary, pronunciation, and content aspects. in brief, the implementation of picture strip stories media can be used to improve students’ speaking ability.
