Abstract name : maudiana ulfa student no. : 1306102020085 study program : english education department title : analyzing phonetic differences between west aceh and greater aceh keywords: phonetic analysis, consonants, duration, intensity, pitch. this study is intended to figure out the duration (s), intensity (db), and pitch (hz) produced by west aceh and greater aceh (hereafter; wa and ga). the framework employed is promoted by phull and kumar (2016). the method used in this study was acoustic analysis. the data were collected by using a sound recorder and a word list of target consonant that was entailed in carrier sentence. there were five participants from west aceh and five participants from greater aceh. then the data were analyzed using praat software. from the result, it was obtained that first, the average duration of west aceh is 0.119s while the average duration of greater aceh is 0.105s; second, the intensity of west aceh is 79.2 db and that of greater aceh is 74.57 db. lastly, the pitch of west aceh is 244.4 hz while greater aceh is 254.7 hz. briefly, west aceh has longer duration and stronger intensity but lower in pitch, while greater aceh has higher pitch but shorter duration and less intensity. it is suggested that this study can be a reference for the next research and it can also contribute to the documentation of the acehnese.
