(2) dr. zulfadli a. aziz, s.pd., m.a. keywords: analysis, slang, conversation, film “fury”. this research is about slang analysis in film conversations. slang language is difficult to understand, especially for non-native english students. to understand native speakers correctly, slang research is needed to study. the aims of this research are to identify the functions, types and the formations of slang words/phrases in the film “fury”. the research is qualitative research with content analysis design. the data source was derived from the conversations of the film. the data are slang words/phrases from the conversations of the film. the data were collected through observation with observation guide as the instrument. the result of the research shows that the functions of using slang in the film are showing emotion, rebellion, humor, toughness, creative, vibrant, informality, stylization, conciseness, and forcefulness. the types of slang used in the film are hip-hop slang, slang in university of leicester, inner city slang of new york, general slang, and specific slang. the slang words/phrases in the film are formed by suffixation, final combining, reversed form, compounding, clipping, and word manufacture. finally, the slang in the film “fury” is used widely and often, usually related to the context of the situation that need more than ordinary words/phrases to express it. for example in an emergency situation, the soldiers in the film “fury” use slang to emphasize their sentences by using it. the types of slang in the film are common types that are often used. formations in forming the words/phrases are also not much different from the formations of words or phrases in ordinary language other than slang (similar to the process of word formation in literal words).
