Abstrak penelitian ini berjudul “efektivitas rambu evakuasi tsunami terhadap pemahaman masyarakat dalam proses evakuasi di kecamatan baitussalam kabupaten aceh besar”. tujuannyan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana efektivitas rambu evakuasi tsunami terhadap pemahaman masyarakat dalam proses evakuasi saat munculnya bencana tsunami. dalam penelitian ini variabel (x) yaitu rambu evakuasi tsunami dan variabel (y) yaitu pemahaman masyarakat dalam proses evakuasi. penelitian ini dilakukan di kecamatan baitussalam kabupaten aceh besar. pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survey eksplanasi. populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu penduduk kecamatan baitussalam kabupaten aceh besar yang berjumlah 18.110 orang dan sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu sebanyak 100 orang berasal dari 13 desa yang ditentukan berdasarkan rumus taro yamane dan teknik penarikan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori s-o-r (stimulus organism response) yang menjelaskan mengenai bagaimana respon yang diterima terhadap pesan yang disampaikan. data primer dalam penelitian ini yaitu kuesioner dengan menggunakan skala likert sebagai skala pengukuran data. data dalam penelitian ini diolah secara statistik dengan menggunakan program spss versi 17,0 yaitu dengan menguji validitas dan reliabilitas, regresi linear sederhana, uji t-hitung, identifikasi determinan, serta menjelaskan kuesioner secara eksplanatif. berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh nilai t hitung 5,520 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,000. nilai t tabel pada ? = 5% adalah 1,984. berdasarkan kriteria uji hipotesis yaitu t hitung > t tabel (5,520 > 1,984) dengan nilai signifikansi (kurang dari 0,05) maka ha diterima. sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa variabel rambu evakuasi tsunami berpengaruh positif dan signifikansi (berarti) terhadap pemahaman masyarakat dalam proses evakuasi di kecamatan baitussalam kabupaten aceh besar. kata kunci: komunikasi kebencanaan, komunikasi visual, efektivitas, rambu evakuasi tsunami, pemahaman masyarakat. abstract this research entitled, “the effecitivity of evacuation road signs on the local’s understanding in the evacuation process in baitussalam district, aceh besar regency”. the aim of this research is to investigate the extent of effectivity of the evacuation road sign on the local’s understanding during the evacuation process when the disaster occurred. in this research, the variable x represents the evacuation road sign and variable y represents the local’s understanding during the evacuation process. this research is conducted in baitussalam district, aceh besar regency. this research made of used the quantitative approach with explanation survey methods. the population in baitussalam district are approximately 18.110 people, while this research used thebsampling of 100 people from 13 villages, in which was determined by the taro yamane measurement and the technic of purposive sampling. the theory utilized in this research is stimulus organism response (s-o-r), in which explain how the response reflected the way messages was perceived. the primary data in this research is the quitioners sheet with the likert scale to measure the data. the data in this research was developed through statistics methods with the spss program version 17,0 in which checked the validity and reliability, the simple linear regression, calculate the t value, identify the determinant and also, to explain the questioner sheet. based on the results, it could be concluded that the hypothesis examination, the t values resulted was 5,520 with significancy level of 0,000. the t value at ? = 5% is 1,984. based on the hypothesis evaluation criteria, the total value > the t table (less than 0,05) then half could be accepted. thus, it signify that the variable of evacuation road signs provide a positive impact on the local’s understanding during the evacuation process in baitussalam district, aceh besar regency. keywords: communication on disaster, visual communication, effecitivity, evacuation road signs, local’s understanding.
