Abstract name : wahyuni handayani student no. : 0806102020109 study program : english education title : improving students’ ability in composing recount text through jigsaw story writing keywords: students’ ability, composing recount text, jigsaw story writing this research is about improving students’ ability in composing recount text through jigsaw story writing. the objective of this research is to know whether there is any improvement of students’ writing ability after they are taught through jigsaw story writing and to know which aspects of writing increase more after they are taught through jigsaw story writing. the methodology of this research was quantitative experimental research, that was one group pretest-posttest design. the subject of this research was the second graders of 27 students. in completing the research, the researcher used written test as an instrument of collecting data. by conducting the experimental research, it was found that using jigsaw story writing improved the students’ recount text writing. to prove the hypothesis, the writer used t-score formula. based on the data analysis, the t-score was 4.225 meanwhile t-table was 2.056. it means that the obtained t-score is higher than t-table. therefore, the alternative hypothesis (ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (ho) was rejected. the writer concludes that teaching recount text through jigsaw story writing can improve the students’ ability in every aspects of writing; organization, content, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics.
