Abstract name : furkani student no. : 1006102050025 study program : english education title :.code switching between indonesian and acehnese at gold store named sinar mustika ulee kareng key words: code switching, situational and metaphorical cs, buyers and seller. this study analyzes the phenomenon of code switching in transactions used by the buyers and sellers at sinar mustika gold store banda aceh. the writer applied a descriptive qualitative method. to gain the data, the writer recorded speech utterances of the buyers and sellers using smartphone as a recorded device. then, the writer transcribes the conversations into the written form based on the transcription convention by ali (2000). the aim of the study is to figure out the types of code-switching that occurred among acehnese speakers in gold trading transactions and to find out the frequency of each types which occurs in gold trading transactions among acehnese speakers in code-switching. the subjects of this study are the buyers and seller at the gold store sinar mustika. after the data have been collected, the writer transcribing and classified the types of code switching based on the wardaugh's (2010) the situational and metaphorical code switching. the result of this study shows that all types of code switching mentioned by wardaugh’s (2010) were applicable at sinar mustika gold store banda aceh, with situational code switching that occurred more than metaphorical code switching. therefore, it can be concluded that the situational code switching took the most important role between the buyers and seller while doing transactions.
